The short version: your room plans live in your browser unless you choose to save them to the cloud, we run our own analytics with no advertising trackers, and the browser extension reads only the page you click it on, only at the moment you click.
The planner (thegoodroomplanner.com)
No account needed. Projects autosave in your browser's local storage and never leave your machine unless you sign in and save to the cloud.
Cloud projects. If you sign in (passwordless, by email link) and save a project to the cloud, we store that project's data and its 3D model files on our servers so it syncs across your devices and can power share links you create. We store your email address to operate your account. We never sell or share this data.
Share links. A share link you create makes that one project viewable, read-only, by anyone holding the link (and its short code). Revoking or regenerating the link stops the old one resolving. Share pages tell search engines not to index them.
Payments. The one-time Pro purchase is processed by Polar as merchant of record. We never see or store card numbers. Your license key is stored in your browser; our server checks it against Polar when you activate it and occasionally afterwards.
Affiliate links. None today. Shopping-list links go straight to the retailer's product page and carry no tracking of ours. If that ever changes, this line and the shopping list itself will say so.
Analytics. We run a self-hosted Umami instance for anonymous, cookie-free usage counts (page views and feature events, e.g. "a share link was created"). No advertising networks, no cross-site tracking, and never the contents of your plans.
Product URLs you paste are fetched to import the product's public data (name, dimensions, price, 3D model). The URL is used for the fetch and stored with the imported item in your project; it is not used for anything else.
The Model Importer extension
The extension exists to do one thing: when you click its toolbar button on a product page, it reads that page's public product data — structured data (schema.org JSON-LD), OpenGraph meta, and any 3D model addresses — and hands the product to your open Good Room Planner tab for review. Specifically:
It reads only the active tab, only on your click (Chrome's activeTab permission). It has no standing access to any website, cannot see your browsing, and does nothing in the background.
Everything stays on your machine. The captured product data travels from the shop tab to your planner tab inside your browser. The extension sends nothing to our servers or anyone else's; it has no analytics of any kind.
Model downloads. If the product has a 3D model, the extension may ask you for one-time permission to fetch the model file from the shop's asset servers — again straight into your browser, stored only inside your planner project.
Storage. It uses extension storage only to hold a capture briefly until your planner tab claims it, and to remember which shops you granted the optional asset permission for.
It collects no personal information whatsoever — no browsing history, no identifiers, nothing sold, nothing shared, nothing used for any purpose beyond delivering the product you captured to your own planner.
Your data, your exit
Every project exports as a single file you own, and cloud projects can be deleted from the project menu — deletion removes the project data and revokes its share link. To delete your account and everything in it, email stories@thegoodroomplanner.com from your account address.
