Getting started
How to plan a room with IKEA furniture without making an account
Guides · updated 2026-10-14
Open thegoodroomplanner.com/planner in a desktop browser, draw your room and paste IKEA product links. There is no sign-up, no email and nothing to download. Each link places the product's real 3D model in your room at its true size, with the name and the price from the IKEA store you pick. The free plan covers one project with up to 5 placed items, and your work autosaves in the browser.
We built it this way because most people plan one room, once. Asking for an account before you have drawn a single wall loses most of them, and we were among them.
What works without an account
- Drawing the room at your measurements, with walls at any angle, real wall thickness and your ceiling height.
- Pasting IKEA product links. IKEA publishes a 3D model on each product page, and the planner uses it at true size.
- The measure tape, distance overlays, door swings and the side-by-side 2D plan and 3D room.
- The shopping list with names, quantities, prices and the total.
- Pro. You buy it on Polar's checkout page, a license key arrives by email, and you paste it into the planner. Still no account.
What needs a sign-in
Two things, both optional. Cloud sync, so the same project opens on another computer. And share links, which turn a project into a read-only page someone else can open in their browser.
Plan the room in five steps
- Measure the room. Measure each wall at floor level, the ceiling height, and where the doors and windows are.
- Open the planner. Go to thegoodroomplanner.com/planner on a desktop browser. There is no sign-up screen in front of it.
- Draw the walls. Draw the walls at the inside distances you measured, then add doors and windows.
- Pick your IKEA store. In settings, choose the IKEA store whose prices you want. The planner suggests one from your location.
- Paste product links. Copy a product link from the IKEA site and paste it into the planner. The 3D model lands in the room at true size. The optional Model Importer Chrome extension does the same from a toolbar button while you browse.
Where your plan lives
Without an account the project is stored in your browser on that computer. If you clear site data or switch machines, it does not come with you. Use project export before that. It saves the whole room as one file you can open again later.
What it is not
It is a room planner for IKEA furniture, not a product configurator. To build a PAX wardrobe interior or a kitchen run piece by piece, IKEA's own tools do that better. Configure it there, then paste the finished product into your real room here.
It works best on a laptop or desktop with a mouse. It runs on a phone, but drawing a plan precisely on a small touch screen is hard. Lengths are in metric. The Good Room Planner is not affiliated with or endorsed by IKEA.
The longer story of why we built it is in a planner alternative that plans the room you actually have. What the free plan includes in full is in free floor plan software that does real 3D.
Questions
Is there a room planner for IKEA furniture that does not need an account?
Yes. The Good Room Planner runs in the browser with no account. You draw your room, paste IKEA product links, and the real 3D models appear at true size. It is free for one project with up to 5 items.
Is it free?
Free covers one project, 5 placed items, a screenshot export and a watermarked PDF. Pro is a $9 one-time license for unlimited projects and items, a PDF without watermark, and article numbers in the shopping list.
Does it work with every IKEA country?
Prices come from the store you choose in settings. The 3D model is the same everywhere, so the size check does not depend on the store.
Is this an official IKEA tool?
No. It is an independent planner that works with IKEA products. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by IKEA.
Will I lose my plan without an account?
The plan autosaves in your browser. It stays there until you clear site data. Export the project file to keep a copy or move it to another computer.
