Product story

An IKEA planner alternative that plans the room you actually have

This one is personal: The Good Room Planner exists because of an evening lost to IKEA’s own planners. The catalog tools are genuinely good at what they are for — configuring a PAX wardrobe or a kitchen run — but try to plan a room in them and you hit the same three walls (pun intended).

Where the catalog planners stop

The alternative: draw the room first, then furnish from anywhere

The Good Room Planner inverts the order. You draw your room — any wall angle, real wall thickness, your true ceiling height, doors and windows where they are. The measurements you type are the clear interior distances you actually measured with the tape, so a 3.00m wall stays 3.00m of usable room no matter how thick the walls are.

Then the furniture: paste an IKEA product URL and the planner fetches the product’s official 3D model — the same model IKEA’s viewers use, at its true dimensions, with real textures — and stands it in your room. Products without a published model become an exact-dimension stand-in with the product photo, so the fit answer is still honest. Prices ride along into a shopping list that totals as you plan.

A real plan · official IKEA modelsdrawn at true size

The plan stays useful after the shopping decision too: check clearances and walking gaps with the measure tape, see the actual daylight your window direction gets, and if you have a VR headset, walk the room at real scale before anything is ordered.

Honest scope: this is a room planner, not an IKEA configurator. For composing a PAX interior drawer-by-drawer, IKEA’s own tool is still the right one — then paste the finished product into your real room here.

Free, in the browser

The planner is free and runs in your browser with no account — your projects autosave locally, and the whole project exports as a single file you own. What free gets you is the entire editor, not a teaser.
