How to make an IKEA shopping list from your room plan

Plan the room with the actual IKEA products in it, then read the list off the plan. In The Good Room Planner, each pasted IKEA link brings the product name, article number and price from the store you pick. The Bill button lists every placed item with quantity, unit price, line total and the total. On Free the list shows names, prices and the total, with article numbers blurred. Pro, $9 once, shows the article numbers and adds CSV export and an "Open all in IKEA" button.

Why build the list from the plan

A list you write by hand drifts from the plan. You swap the 160 cm bed for the 140 cm one, forget to update the list, and buy the wrong slats. When the list is generated from what is placed in the room, it can't disagree with the room. Two of the same chair count as quantity 2. Delete the second bookcase and it leaves the total.

Article numbers matter in the store. IKEA article numbers are eight digits, written like 123.456.78. In the self-serve area you find a product by its aisle and location, which the product page and the store's tags give per article number, and it is what staff ask for at the desk.

From plan to list, step by step

  1. Pick your store. In the planner settings, choose the IKEA store you will buy from, so prices come in that currency.
  2. Draw the room. Draw the walls at your measurements in the planner so the fit check is real.
  3. Paste the products. Paste each IKEA product link, or use the Model Importer Chrome extension while you browse. Each product lands at true size with its name, article number and price.
  4. Keep options on a hidden layer. Put the alternatives you are still deciding on onto a separate layer and hide it. Hidden layers stay out of the total unless you tick "Count objects on hidden layers".
  5. Open the list. Click Bill in the top bar. You get every item grouped with quantity, unit price, line total and the total.
  6. Take it to the store. On Pro, copy or download the list as CSV with article numbers, or use "Open all in IKEA" to open every product page. On Free, the names and prices are on screen.

Things the list can't know

Free or Pro, honestly

If you need the product names, prices and a total, Free does it. Free also stops at 5 placed items and one project. Pro is worth $9 if you want the article numbers on the list, a CSV to paste into a spreadsheet, the "Open all in IKEA" button to open every product page in one go, or more than 5 items. It is a one-time license with no account, and the key works on 5 devices.

The links in the list go straight to IKEA's product pages, untracked. There are no affiliate links today.

How the products get into the plan at true size is covered in why a room planner needs real furniture. Why we started with IKEA products is in a planner alternative that plans the room you actually have. The full Free and Pro table is on the Pro page.

Plan the room with the real products. In The Good Room Planner, paste each IKEA product link, then open the Bill to see every item with quantity, price and total. Pro adds article numbers and CSV export.

Does the list include IKEA article numbers?

Yes, on Pro. Each pasted IKEA product carries its article number. Free shows the list with the article numbers blurred.

Prices are read from the IKEA store you pick when you add a product, and the list shows the date they were read. Check the cart before paying.

Can I add products from other stores?
